Fun Indoor Activities to do with Your Kids

03/03/2020

I grew up with a saying in my family, and that particular phrase was, “It takes a village to raise a child.”  After becoming a mother, I found this to be true and I gladly accepted all the help I could get!  Due to a child’s natural curious nature and their need to explore and discover the world around them, they have an uncanny ability to get into interesting and often ‘sticky’ situations.  In short, children like staying curious and occupied!

Living in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and Petaling Jaya more specifically, means one must get used to the smog and sometimes foggy weather patterns.  All things considered, this can really put a damper on your weekend plans with your children…so, in an attempt to keep things interesting despite the weather outside, here are some great recipes you can do with your kiddos from the comfort of your own home…and believe me, some of these will keep your children occupied for hours!

Indoor Crafts and Recipes To Keep Your Kids Busy All DaY

  1. Cloud Dough
This particular dough is so soft your toddlers won’t be able to stop touching it.  Here is another great activity to do with your children when the weather outside is frightful!

Ingredients:  All-purpose flour

Vegetable oil

Oil-based food coloring

First mix the oil-based food coloring with the vegetable oil.  If you want more than one color, be sure to set aside a few different containers with the vegetable oil and oil-based food-coloring.  Then mix 2 cups flour with ¼ cup vegetable oil/color mix.  If you are using three colors then you will need 6 cups of flour:  two cups of flour per color.

It may be best to have a plastic pool to bring inside, or a plastic tub where your children can play without making too big of a mess in your house.  Adding things like cars, sand toys and measuring cups will keep your children busy for hours!

  1. Galaxy Slime

This sensory activity is great for kids of all ages and your children are sure to have a blast with this!

Ingredients:  1 5 oz bottle of Clear School Glue

½ – ¾ Cup Liquid Starch

Liquid watercolors or Food coloring

Fine Glitter in several colors

Put the glue in a bowl first, add coloring until you reach your preferred color and then add the glitter.  Start adding the starch in small increments, stirring frequently in between each additional increment. Continue adding and stirring the starch until desired consistency is reached, and then play the day away!

  1. Laminated Faces with Dry-erase markers!

This is a fun activity to do with your kids, especially the slightly older ones.  What you will need is:

Laminated pictures of family/friends

Dry-erase markers

Have the children sit down and draw funny things on their family and friends’ faces, whether that would be moustaches, thick eyebrows, lipstick or the likes.  You could also take the pictures and cut out the heads for more focus.  Regardless, your children will have tons of fun with this activity.

  1. Fluffy Stuff!!

This one is also a lot of fun and is a big hit in my home!  Paraphrasing a famous saying from Despicable Me in an attempt to describe this stuff, “It’s so fluffy I’m gonna die!”

Ingredients:  1 bottle of shaving cream

1 box of cornstarch

This is a great activity.  All you need to do is mix the shaving cream and cornstarch!  Not only is it fun, but after a little while, it becomes moldable.  You can keep it for up to a week in a closed container, but it does get stiffer the longer it sits.  But regardless, this can equate to hours and hours of fun!

While it is often easier to plug your child into a tablet or video games during those days where playing outside isn’t feasible, other crafty sensory activities help keep your kiddos unplugged, happy and entertained all day.  And hey!  With a little help from Pinterest, you can find a myriad of other activities and crafts to do with your kiddos!

About Little Human Scholars Full & Half Day Daycare in PJ

Little Human Scholars is an all-in-one childcare solution.  It is a preschool, playschool, kindergarten, nursery and full day daycare centre (with extended hours) located in the heart of PJ.

In fact, the location is one of the things which makes Little Human Scholars so sought after – it is conveniently nestled near Jalan Gasing, University hospital, PJ Old town, PJ New town, Jaya One, Jaya33, and the PJ IT Mall.

The best part is LHS has premiere services many other schools in PJ don’t offer such as full day daycare with extended hours, CCTV access for parents, and a nifty little phone app called Toddlytic which provides parents with automatic updates on their child’s development, behaviour and health checks.

With full-time guards always present at each of their locations, access to CCTV (which is in every room except the office, bathroom and kitchen areas), and very strict pick-up and drop-off rules, Little Human Scholars treats every child who walks into its hallways as one of their own children!

This place has it all:  location, safety, health, IGSCE curriculum and play-based learning.  What more could you ask for?  Did I mention they also have transportation services and offer meal plans for students?  It doesn’t get any better than that.

If you are interested in a tour of one of our centres (that’s right, there’s more than one), all you need to do is fill out the form here or call +6017-7303-025 and an LHS administrative staff will get back with you shortly!

Cheers,
