Having your child start kindi is an exciting time. For one, they are starting school (if they haven’t already started), second they are making new friends and third, they are learning their ABC’s and 123’s.  Kindi is a rite of passage for you as a parent as well.  This is the time where your child starts becoming more independent and stops relying on you so much.

Many parents want their children to succeed in school, and kindergarten is the time to start them on good study habits.  All things considered how does a parent help their child study in kindergarten?  While there are many techniques, the key is finding out how your child operates and then finding the methods that work best for them.

Good Study Habits in Kindi – Petaling Jaya

Expecting your child to adapt good study habits quickly and efficiently may not be good for all parents and children.  Where some children may adapt at good study habits immediately, others may take more time.  The key is to be patient.  Regardless as to how your child is, here is what you can do to teach your child good study habits.

1.         Find out how your child operates.

Which learning style does your child utilise most?  Are they more auditory, kinesthetic, or visual?  This can be determined by simply watching them.  If your school grants you access to their CCTV system, such as Little Human Scholars school in Petaling Jaya, you can tune in a few times a day and see which lesson excites them more.  Are they eager to get up and dance and sing (auditory)?  Do they enjoy molding clay or playdough (kinesthetic)?  Or would they rather sit back and watch the teacher work or the tv. (visual)?

2.         Implement your child’s learning style into their study time.

When my daughter was first starting out in school, it was very apparent that she had a more auditory approach to learning.  She loved socialising with other kids, singing and talking.  When it came to studying at home, one of the things she couldn’t stand was writing.  Sure, she liked coloring but having to sit down and practice writing was something she couldn’t stand.  Knowing that she was more inclined to an auditory style of learning, we would sit down and sing out our lesson plans.  Spelling was always fun for her, and while math wasn’t her favorite subject, it became one of the things she loved studying because we would speak out the numbers instead of simply writing them down.

3.         Make studying a part of your child’s routine.

After kindergarten, my daughter and I would always go to lunch together before heading home.  We would have an hour of play, followed by snack time and then in the early afternoon when it was the hottest part of the day, we would study.  She was so used to this routine that as she got older, she did it on her own.

4.         Make study time fun time!

I found out quickly that if I made study time a chore, my daughter treated it like a chore.  If I made study time into play, she would study willingly.  There’s no reason why studying shouldn’t be fun for your child.  And, if they aren’t having fun with it, explore different ways you can make it more fun for them!

In summary, helping your child study in kindie can be something they look forward to.  If they aren’t enjoying study time at home, then it may be time to switch things up.  Look more deeply into what their learning style is and see if you can turn study time into a game.  You not only set your child up for success in the long run, but you set yourself up for success as well!

About Little Human Scholars School in PJ

Little Human Scholars is an all-in-one childcare solution.  It is a preschool, playschool, kindergarten, nursery and full day daycare centre (with extended hours) located in the heart of PJ.

In fact, the location is one of the things which makes Little Human Scholars so sought after – it is conveniently nestled near Jalan Gasing, University hospital, PJ Old town, PJ New town, Jaya One, Jaya33, and the PJ IT Mall.

The best part is LHS has premiere services many other schools in PJ don’t offer such as full day daycare with extended hours, CCTV access for parents, and a nifty little phone app called Toddlytic which provides parents with automatic updates on their child’s development, behaviour and health checks.

With full-time guards always present at each of their locations, access to CCTV (which is in every room except the office, bathroom and kitchen areas), and very strict pick-up and drop-off rules, Little Human Scholars treats every child who walks into its hallways as one of their own children!

This place has it all:  location, safety, health, IGSCE curriculum and play-based learning.  What more could you ask for?  Did I mention they also have transportation services and offer meal plans for students?  It doesn’t get any better than that.

If you are interested in a tour of one of our centres (that’s right, there’s more than one), all you need to do is fill out the form here or call +6017-7303-025 and an LHS administrative staff will get back with you shortly!

Cheers,
