The new school season is approaching, and for many new parents this can be stressful. For one, your child may experience separation anxiety and cry when you leave them at their new school. Two, they may not be used to the new routine which can often result in temper tantrums both at home and at school. And three, they are now surrounded by people they don’t know very well in an unfamiliar environment. All these factors can cause tension for both the child and the parents. And let’s face it, many of us don’t like walking away from our kiddos when they are crying and reaching for us. It tugs on our heart strings! So, to help set you AND your kiddo up for success, here are some things you can do BEFORE they start a new school, with a new regime, and new people. As with most things, getting them started early helps them and you with the encroaching changes! Getting Your Child Ready for School Ideally, it’s best to start using these tools a couple of weeks before school starts – this way you set you and your child up for success! 1. Register your child in a school. Picking the right school for your child takes time, consideration and research. Finding the right school in PJ can be easier than you think depending on your needs. List out your needs and start school shopping. Once you have found an ideal school, register your child and then wait for January! 2. Talk to your child about school. Sit with your child and tell them they will be starting school soon. There, they will make friends, have a teacher, sing songs, play games, and have fun. Your toddler may tell you, “No,” or “I don’t want,” and that is fine. They can express their feelings and emotions about the upcoming changes. Keep in mind, if they weren’t in daycare prior to school starting, up to this point their whole life has been their family. Going someplace else with strange people may not sound enticing to them. It could even be scary for them! But keep talking to them about it. This, at the very least, prepares them for what they will soon be starting and they will know what to expect even if they don’t particularly like it. 3. Ask what the school’s schedule is and start following it with your child. Every school has a different schedule – this is especially important to know if you signed your child up for daycare after school is out. Maybe playtime is in the morning, perhaps it’s in the afternoon. The children may sit down and eat lunch at 11:30 every day, followed by naptime. Getting your child on a similar schedule before school starts can assist them in assimilating to the new environment. Again, this helps them know what to expect! 4. Have playtime on the weekend with school friends. You can further assist your child’s assimilation process by inviting school friends over on the weekend to play. An additional bonus is this can help tucker your kiddo out for naptime. 5. Celebrate school! When you pick your child up from school, tell them how proud you are of them for going! If you dropped them off in the morning and they didn’t cry, celebrate that by doing a fun after-school activity with them. In summary, if your child has never been to daycare and is starting school, often they have become used to their home-life regime. But by doing a few tweaks here and there, you can have them looking forward to school instead of dreading it, making their life (and yours) easier! About Little Human Scholars School in PJ Little Human Scholars is an all-in-one childcare solution. It is a preschool, playschool, kindergarten, nursery and full day daycare centre (with extended hours) located in the heart of PJ. In fact, the location is one of the things which makes Little Human Scholars so sought after – it is conveniently nestled near Jalan Gasing, University hospital, PJ Old town, PJ New town, Jaya One, Jaya33, and the PJ IT Mall. The best part is LHS has premiere services many other schools in PJ don’t offer such as full day daycare with extended hours, CCTV access for parents, and a nifty little phone app called Toddlytic which provides parents with automatic updates on their child’s development, behaviour and health checks. With full-time guards always present at each of their locations, access to CCTV (which is in every room except the office, bathroom and kitchen areas), and very strict pick-up and drop-off rules, Little Human Scholars treats every child who walks into its hallways as one of their own children! This place has it all: location, safety, health, IGSCE curriculum and play-based learning. What more could you ask for? Did I mention they also have transportation services and offer meal plans for students? It doesn’t get any better than that. If you are interested in a tour of one of our centres (that’s right, there’s more than one), all you need to do is fill out the form here or call +6017-7303-025 and an LHS administrative staff will get back with you shortly! Cheers, Jana Moreno
