Many parents notice that their child gets a little sniffly when they start school for the first time.  And if it isn’t the sniffles, there’s always coughing, phlegm, fevers and more!  The reason for this is they are being exposed to new environments where germs run amuck.  And if you aren’t careful, you may just catch a bug or two from your children!

The good news is there are several cold, flu, and germ prevention techniques you can utilize to keep your child (and the rest of your household), happy and healthy!

Tips to Support Your Child’s Immune System

First and foremost, how you do one thing is how you do most things.  What is your diet like?  Do you eat healthy foods?  What about exercising and drinking enough water?  Do you get plenty of rest?  And more importantly, do you make sure your children do these things?

Even with a healthy lifestyle, this doesn’t always stop us or our children from occasionally falling sick.  Spending time in public places like school, daycare, the workplace or out and about in PJ running errands exposes us to other germs, bacteria and viruses.  Just thinking about the amount of germs in the IT mall in PJ leaves me feeling queasy!  All the things we touch which we don’t normally think about like handrails, money, door knobs and the like all can carry tons of germs on them, leaving our immune systems to take the brunt of it.

Here are some other ways you can set you and your family up for success in terms of health:

  1. Get a flu shot.

In all honesty, I am not a fan of flu shots or shots in general, but I do know several teachers in Little Human Scholars preschool and playschool in PJ who get them and swear by it – one, in particular, being Teacher Pat.  Teachers who are in schools are surrounding by germs constantly and are subject to said germs day in and day out.  Those who get the flu shots, however, seem to elude sickness!

  1. Wash your hands A LOT!

While our family washes their hands before every meal and after using the restroom, we occasionally use a little hand sanitiser – especially when out and about in PJ.  While some families are fans of hand sanitizer, we prefer the good old-fashioned method of washing our hands with antibacterial soap.

If your child is in school or is getting ready to start school, you may want to get them in the habit of washing their hands now.  Though Little Human Scholars kindergarten and preschool in PJ sanitizes all of their centres inside and out daily, this doesn’t mean your child won’t be exposed to germs.  Getting them in the habit of washing their little hands will help keep them happy and healthy.

  1. Sanitise as much as possible.

I clean and sanitise a lot more during the flu and cold season, and I sanitize everything in sight!  Especially things like phones, laptops, keyboards, doorknobs and anything with a handle, I take the time, once or twice a week, to scrub and disinfect my household.  If someone happens to fall ill, I go the extra mile and try to sanitize daily so the rest of my family won’t get sick and keep my daughter from getting her school mates sick.

  1. Use herbal remedies and teas.

Echinacea, goldenseal, ginger, vitamin C, honey, and lemon are all great ways that support you in flu and cold prevention.  Again, a healthy lifestyle will also go a long way in impeding that nasty virus.  Keep a balanced diet, eat healthy, exercise, drink lots of water and get plenty of rest!  Keep in mind that whatever YOU do as an adult, your children will mimic and follow.

When you start your child in a new school, they are bound to be exposed to new germs and may get sick for the first few months, frequently.  This is normal (so be sure to have a babysitter on standby – children aren’t allowed to stay in school if they have a fever)!

Picking a school which uses proper sanitisation procedures is of the utmost importance.  Sure, they will still be exposed to germs, but it keeps the germs to a minimum.  This is where Little Human Scholars preschool, playschool, kindergarten, nursery, and daycare in Petaling Jaya shines.  They have strict santisation procedures to keep the children as healthy as possible – especially when they are starting school for the first time.

If you are a parent who can’t afford to have a child home sick every other week, enroling them in a school in PJ which ensures cleanliness may be in your best interest!

About Little Human Scholars Kindergarten in PJ

Little Human Scholars is an all-in-one childcare solution.  It is a preschool, playschool, kindergarten, nursery and full day daycare centre (with extended hours) located in the heart of PJ.

In fact, the location is one of the things which makes Little Human Scholars so sought after – it is conveniently nestled near Jalan Gasing, University hospital, PJ Old town, PJ New town, Jaya One, Jaya33, and the PJ IT Mall.

The best part is LHS has premiere services many other schools in PJ don’t offer such as full-day daycare with extended hours, CCTV access for parents, and a nifty little phone app called Toddlytic which provides parents with automatic updates on their child’s development, behaviour and health checks.

With full-time guards always present at each of their locations, access to CCTV (which is in every room except the office, bathroom and kitchen areas), and very strict pick-up and drop-off rules, Little Human Scholars treats every child who walks into its hallways as one of their own children!

This place has it all:  location, safety, health, IGSCE curriculum and play-based learning.  What more could you ask for?  Did I mention they also have transportation services and offer meal plans for students?  It doesn’t get any better than that.

If you are interested in a tour of one of our centres (that’s right, there’s more than one), all you need to do is fill out the form here or call +6017-7303-025 and an LHS administrative staff will get back with you shortly!

Cheers,
