I’ve seen it time and time again – kids seemingly fall ill when they start school.  Typically sniffles, coughing, phlegm and more, seem to bombard your child when they start preschool, kindergarten or even when they join a new daycare centre!  Why is this so?  Why do children seem to fall sick when they start a new school?

For one, if they were raised at home by parents, grandparents or nannies, chances are socializing with other children around their age is something that occurred sporadically.  Their immune systems became accustomed to their environment and while they may have gone places with mummy and daddy, heading into a new environment with other children and toys didn’t happen constantly.

Many children become ill when starting a new school because their immune systems are being introduced to a new environment.  One which challenged their bodies.  This isn’t a bad thing at all – in fact, introducing them to a new environment often builds up their little immune systems, but not before they experience some runny noses.

This is where setting your family up for success by practicing some illness prevention can support your kiddos in being happier and healthier.  After all, the best way to treat illness is to prevent it altogether.

Tips to Support Your Child’s Immune System When They Start School

  • Put your child in a school which practices daily sanitisation and hygiene.

I remember enroling my child in a playschool when she was 2 years old.  It felt like every day she would come home with a runny nose, a cough, a fever or something of that nature.  After about a year, I started feeling like something wasn’t right.  Sure, she had never been in school before and I expected a little bit of illness, but this was a whole lot more than I expected.  I finally enroled her in another school and her illnesses seemingly vanished!  Granted, this new school had an hourly hand washing regime with antibacterial soap, and they santised all the toys at the end of the day.  I was positive this was the reason she was suddenly happy and healthy again after a year of misery!

  • Get a flu shot.

In all honesty, I am not a fan of flu shots or shots in general, but I do know several teachers in Little Human Scholars preschool and playschool in PJ who get them and swear by it – one, in particular, being Teacher Pat.  Teachers who are in schools are surrounding by germs constantly, and are subject to said germs day in and day out.  Those who get the flu shots, however, seem to elude sickness!

  • Wash your hands..A LOT!

Our family washes their hands before every meal and after using the restroom, and definitely before we eat.  While some families are fans of hand sanitizer, we prefer the good old-fashioned method of washing our hands with antibacterial soap.

If your child is in school or is getting ready to start school, you may want to get them in the habit of washing their hands now.  Though Little Human Scholars kindergarten and preschool in PJ sanitizes all of their centres inside and out daily, this doesn’t mean your child won’t be exposed to germs.  Getting them in the habit of washing their little hands will help keep them happy and healthy.

  • Sanitise as much as possible.

We do a once-a-week santisation in our home and include all of my little one’s toys.  At Little Human Scholars, they do it at the end of each day to minimise the passing of germs. Keep in mind that whatever YOU do as an adult, your children will mimick and follow.

And whether you are looking for childcare for a 2-month-old, or for full day care with meals and transportation included, or just a simple half-day school Monday through Friday, Little Human Scholars kindergarten, playschool, preschool and full day daycare centre is one school that truly caters to their students AND the parents while keeping everyone happy and healthy!

Finding a preschool and kindergarten that takes sanitization seriously, and makes washing hands a regular happenstance is crucial not just for your child, but for all the students, teachers and for your health as well!

About Little Human Scholars School and Daycare Centre in PJ

Little Human Scholars is an all-in-one childcare solution.  It is a preschool, playschool, kindergarten, nursery and full day daycare centre (with extended hours) located in the heart of PJ.

In fact, the location is one of the things which makes Little Human Scholars so sought after – it is conveniently nestled near Jalan Gasing, University hospital, PJ Old town, PJ New town, Jaya One, Jaya33, and the PJ IT Mall.

The best part is LHS has premiere services many other schools in PJ don’t offer such as full day daycare with extended hours, CCTV access for parents, and a nifty little phone app called Toddlytic which provides parents with automatic updates on their child’s development, behaviour and health checks.

With full-time guards always present at each of their locations, access to CCTV (which is in every room except the office, bathroom and kitchen areas), and very strict pick-up and drop-off rules, Little Human Scholars treats every child who walks into it’s hallways as one of their own children!

This place has it all:  location, safety, health, IGSCE curriculum and play-based learning.  What more could you ask for?  Did I mention they also have transportation services and offer meal plans for students?  It doesn’t get any better than that.

If you are interested in a tour of one of our centres (that’s right, there’s more than one), all you need to do is fill out the form here or call +6017-7303-025 and a LHS administrative staff will get back with you shortly!

Cheers,
